Visit from Japan

Next Monday to Wednesday, 19 to 21 July 2021, Mr Arima and Mr Ueda from Eventas - our resale and service partner in Japan - will be visiting us. They will be accompanied by Ms Hayashi, who will be available as an interpreter. A two-day service partner training is planned as well as an exchange about future cooperation. We are looking forward to the visit and hope that the delegation from Japan will have a great time in Switzerland!

Polecat and weasel are ready for the journey

Anyone who works in an office has certainly had them in their hands: The self-adhesive labels from HERMA. Wherever a product needs to be labelled or glued, HERMA is the specialist. HERMA attaches great importance to CO2 neutrality and the logistics use a KYBURZ DXC, sold by the KYBURZ reseller BEMOTEC in Reutlingen (DE).

To increase the transport capacity, an interchangeable box trailer with two interchangeable boxes is now added. The exchange boxes are not only numbered and provided with a barcode. They are labelled with individual names: "Weasel" and "Polecat". The two marten-like predators are ready for their journey to HERMA. So that they can really let off steam there!

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin Kyburz

Martin Kyburz introduces the ePedelec team and explains how the design and implementation work in a room.

Object of the week: Front indicator

KYBURZ has been using ECIE turn signals from Italy since 2007. The commercially available indicator is specially assembled for KYBURZ with regard to the wiring. To ensure safety in road traffic, the indicator has undergone various certifications and tests.

The left and right turn signals are practically identical. The small and subtle difference is an approx. 2 x 4 mm recess on the housing. This hole ensures that any water that penetrates can drain off. The indicator should therefore always be mounted so that the drain is at the bottom.

The actual indicator housing is mounted on the chassis with a slightly springy connecting piece so that it does not break immediately in the event of light impacts. Removing a single screw is enough to replace the bulb. On KYBURZ vehicles produced before 2007, some of which were equipped with rigidly mounted turn signals, this type of indicator can be retrofitted without any problems.

Good to know:
The most common defect of the indicator is the mechanical destruction of the orange indicator glass. If the transparent orange plastic part is cracked, however, the complete indicator does not have to be replaced. Under part no. 305500.00 KYBURZ offers a replacement lens for only CHF 8.60 incl. VAT, which is compatible with the left and right indicator.

Great eRod riding sensations on Lake Neuchâtel

Since this summer, you can rent an eRod from the company SKYautomobile in Bevaix. They are just introducing themselves:

"We are a somewhat atypical garage, as we are not only specialists in Morgan and Donkervoort vehicles, but also official partners of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Abarth and Fiat Professional. The idea appealed to us to offer a nice, fun vehicle that also bears our family name for hire alongside our English Morgan. In this respect, we are certainly related to its creators, as we share the same origins."

The boss's name is Stéphane Kyburz and he says of the eRod: "The KYBURZ eRod is really a car that gives great driving sensations and is at the cutting edge thanks to its ecological side. Its range makes it possible to take nice trips on the roads of the region. In particular, it is easy to drive around Lake Neuchâtel."

Congratulations on the new generation

Congratulations to Larissa and Davide Randone on the birth of their son Liam Noah. Mother and child are doing well. We wish the little family all the best and much joy with their newborn. After maternity leave, Larissa will return to work part-time in the office.

New employee: Arjan van Hooft

International sales to business customers are strengthened. Arjan van Hooft, who has many years of experience in the sale of cars and commercial vehicles in the Netherlands, joins us. He has been living and working in Switzerland for a few years. From here he has already sold optimisation technologies for waste incineration plants to international customers. We wish him every success!

Does the coffee taste good?

In the last few weeks, 4 organic coffees were tasted. The participation in the survey was not as great as we had hoped. Based on the few assessments submitted and the factors of price/performance and origin/seal, Jeanne has chosen the "LAVAZZA ¡Tierra! BIO" coffee as the favourite. We source this coffee from a local company: "Prima Tazza AG" in Rorbas. Since week 26, the second and last test phase is in progress, in which the "LAVAZZA ¡Tierra!" is to be evaluated by as many employees as possible. If this organic coffee does well, it will be forwarded as the winner.

Scan the QR code next to your coffee machine and give your verdict! Thank you for your participation.

A day in the life of Sinan Shabani

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Sinan Shabani: I have been with KYBURZ since June 2018.

Erza: What are your activities?

Sinan: As a mechanic, I repair vehicles for the post office, as well as for private customers. I also make cost estimates for our customers and for post office vehicles that have been involved in accidents. In between, I'm on tour and repair the vehicles on site. I also supervise the mechanics trainees in the service department.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Sinan: I start at 7.45 a.m. and the first thing I do is check which jobs have been assigned. Accordingly, I bring the vehicle into the workshop and get started. In between, I check if we have any accident vehicles in the "goods inwards" to prepare cost estimates. Depending on the situation, I'm also on the road to repair vehicles on site. In the workshop, I generally work until about 5.15 pm. On the road, the working hours can vary.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Sinan: I particularly like the work itself, the team and the working hours. There is nothing I don't like, and if there is, then it's just little things that are not relevant.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Sinan: In my free time I like to do things with my wife and children, such as travelling, playing outside or going for a walk. In the summer we also like to go to the Töss or to the swimming pool. I've also been playing football for 22 years.

Erza: In which club do you play football?

Sinan: I am with FC Embrach. I started with the juniors and later I played in the 1st team for about 13 years. 3 years ago I decided to take it a bit easier and switched to the seniors (Ü30). We have training once a week and a match on Fridays.

30 years KYBURZ Switzerland AG

With Martin Kyburz through history

A new rental location for the CLASSIC vehicles is being built in Leukerbad. We take off - and crash again!

Positive feedback from the ePedelec deliverers

ePedelecs have been in use at various locations since the summer of 2020. During a tour through Germany, all vehicles were checked to ensure the were working properly and some improvements were retrofitted. We got to know the ePed riders personally at almost all locations. Their extremely positive feedback is very motivating for us and provided unforgettable highlights for the whole trip.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

Our ePedelec and eTrolley builder Rolf Menzi is retiring. Martin Kyburz interviewed him on his last day at work and Rolf also presented his latest project.

KYBURZ tests batteries

All battery types that we use are put through their paces. EMPA Dübendorf helps us carry out the two most extreme tests. In the nail test, an internal short circuit is induced in a fully charged battery by driving a nail through the cells. The battery is allowed to outgas, but not to ignite. In the other extreme test, all protective electronics are bypassed and a fully charged battery is subjected to the maximum possible charging power until the cells outgas. The test is passed if no fire starts. Individual cells are tested as well as complete vehicles ready for operation, including the battery. If all tests are passed successfully, the type is considered approved for use by customers. The whole process takes between 8 and 12 hours.

Do you have any questions about the battery tests? Olivier Groux will be happy to provide information.

Object of the week: Seat support

The cylinder of the seat holder fits precisely into the tube of the chassis. The recess that prevents it from turning must not swing out. At the same time, it must be possible to remove the seat in just a few steps, as it is the first part to be removed during many service jobs so that the mechanic can access the batteries and the electronics.

Depending on the weight of the driver, considerable forces act on the seat holder of KYBURZ vehicles. Today, therefore, an alloyed steel is used, which is then also well protected by galvanisation.

In the past, the seat rails were welded at right angles to the cylinder. With the introduction of the seat box, it is now an acute angle. The seat rails no longer run horizontally, which has the advantage that when the seat is pushed forward, it also lies lower.

Good to know:
Many long-time KYBURZ employees refer to "The Seat-H". This is not as an abbreviation of "bracket", but because the component originally had the visual shape of an H.

Film shooting – Dominik unter Strom

Last Tuesday morning, 29 June, the team from Halsundbeinbruch Film GmbH visited us to film a feature about our battery recycling plant. The team, consisting of two cameramen, Luca and Mario, and Andrea, the project manager, had a tight programme. Olivier Groux was interviewed by presenter Dominik Widmer for around two hours. The presenter then went on to the next filming location with our eRod. From 24 July 2021, every Saturday, you can follow the programme "Dominik unter Strom" on various local stations.

This is what «Dominik unter Strom» is about
Once around the CH-Media broadcasting area with muscle power and renewable energy. Radio 24 morning show star Dominik Widmer obviously seeks suffering with passion, because the juice from the battery eventually runs out. Widmer's journey around the CH-Media countryside is enriched by innovative visionaries who look into the future of mobility and by experts who pass on their knowledge of electric mobility to the viewers.

KYBURZ DXS in use for fire brigade traffic service

An interesting article about the use of the DXS by the Horn fire brigade was recently published in the magazine swissfire118. Claudio Forster, commander of the Horn fire brigade, tells in the article why the DXS is perfect for traffic service.

Do you have any questions about the DXS special vehicle? Lothar Seiler will be happy to provide information.

MAS in Human-Machine Interactions

I am about to finish my 3-year MAS in "Human Computer Interaction Design" at the University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil. Since the term is not self-explanatory, I will try to describe it:

In this further education, the focus is on all of you as users of our software products. We learn methods and tools that help us to better understand our users, their demands, wishes and expectations. And further, how we translate these insights into an understandable and beautiful design.

When we develop a new app or a new function for an existing product, it should not suit the developer, but you as a user. It should support you in your daily activities and make your life a little bit easier.

A few of you have already experienced this. We did a lot of interviews for our new Fleet App. For the calendar and claims management, Matthias Röthlin showed me his workflows and problems. Others have tested design sketches on paper and given us valuable feedback.

To give you a simple example, let's look at the path of our upcoming Fleet App.

The three pictures on the right show the path from idea to finished app.

After we have collected all the information and suggestions, we sketch out a possible app, the wireframe. This is tested, for example, to see how well a vehicle can be reserved and whether the user interface is quick and easy. In order to make improvements quickly, we only do these tests with wireframes. When we are satisfied with the results, we turn the wireframes into a nice design (Figure 2). Only then does it go into software development. The programmers then use the design like a blueprint and programme the app from it (image 3). Once the app has passed all the tests, it is published.

It's a long process, from an idea to implementation. That's what my studies are all about. If you are interested in participating in a test or interview, please send me an email. I would be very pleased.

We congratulate Rolf Menzi on his retirement

Rolf Menzi has been enjoying his retirement since 1 July. As an ambitious sportsman, the term "retirement" hardly applies to him. The trained radio and television electronics engineer worked in our development team for 7 ½ years. He put his electronic, mechanical and planning knowledge and skills to extremely beneficial use as project manager for the eTrolley and ePedelec. He will continue to support the team with a 20% workload.

No matter what the weather conditions are, the passionate cyclist regularly rides his eBike the 30 km route to work. As the proud owner of a VW-e-up, he remains true to his energy-conscious lifestyle.

I am delighted that Rolf will continue to join us on our lunchtime jog.

A day in the life of Flurin Vicentini

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Flurin Vicentini: I have been a permanent employee for 11 years. The first time I was here was 17 years ago. I worked as a temp in production for one month every summer.

Erza Mehmeti: What was your career like at KYBURZ?

During my time as a temp and at the very beginning of my permanent employment, I did pre-assembly for the production. That's when Fadil and Isuf taught me what it means to work.
Later, I was a service mechanic for a few years and did a lot of repairs on site with the customers. Then I changed from service mechanic to service office and service partner training. Finally, I moved from service to development, where I was able to work on various development projects.

In 2015, I was able to take over the management of the development department and build up the development team as we have it today. In parallel to the development management, I took over the management of the eRod department as a "side job" in 2019.

In March 2020, I swapped my job as development manager for the job as general manager in the service department, which also made me a member of the company's management team.

Erza: What are your activities?

Flurin: As Managing Director of the Service Department, I am responsible for further development and problem solving in the department. I also have to make sure that we have our budget figures (expenses and income) under control. I do the same with the eRod department. Wherever the team is stuck or blocked, I try to support them to find a solution.
On the side, I work together with the Pachi team on the further development of Pachi.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Flurin: I start my work at around 8.00 am. Usually ¾ of my day is already planned with appointments (e.g. alignment meetings for projects or with different teams). In between, I try to answer my emails or someone spontaneously comes by with a task that we then solve together. From 6 p.m. onwards, I usually devote myself to my emails again and work on them. I usually finish work between 7 and 8 pm.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Flurin: I particularly like the company philosophy and the products we make. All the different vehicles we have - mobility is fun. I also really like the cooperation among the employees. I like the people I work with.

What I like less are the 3 locations we have.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Flurin: In my free time, I'm interested in everything that has wheels - from motorbikes to go-karts. I like to tinker with my car or motorbike or do things with my friends.

Erza: Where do you tinker with your vehicles?

Flurin: Together with colleagues we have a small workshop in Oberembrach, and I also tinker with my bike here in the workshop from time to time.

Photo of the week: a new video emerges

Last Wednesday we were busy filming for a KYBURZ ePedelec promotional video. Instead of two mailboxes, our cameraman Bruno also has a place.

30 years KYBURZ Switzerland AG

With Martin Kyburz through history

And once again we are going to a trade fair. This time to France. All expectations are exceeded.

Test vehicles at the Polish Post

The Polish Post has been on our list of potential clients to win for some time. In these pandemic times, it is not easy to find an entry point to a group like the Polish Post. That's what trade fairs like "Postexpo" or specialised platforms are normally for.

For well-known reasons, neither of these could take place. We are all the more pleased that after countless video conferences, telephone calls and dozens of e-mails, we were able to start test operations with 5 DXP in different configurations in the Gdansk area last week. Thanks to our fleet management system, we can actively accompany the test. So far, the customer is very satisfied, which he also expresses in a video. It remains to be hoped that we will soon be able to take the project further on site through personal contact.

If you have any questions, please contact Martin Jerg.

Visit from the Zoe Club

On Saturday, 26 June 2021, the Renault ZOE Club visited us. 22 members were shown an overview of the company by Martin Kyburz, especially the battery recycling and the 2ndLife hall. Many expert questions were asked. Our Renault ZOE was not to be missed at the event. Many of our employees were able to get to know and appreciate electric mobility with the vehicle. After intensive test drives, some have already replaced their conventionally powered vehicle with an electric vehicle.

The Zoe Club has written a report about the visit on its website.

Object of the week: Steering damper

As a child, we rode our bikes hands-free. When doing so, it happened time and again that the handlebars began to "flutter" strongly, i.e. to bounce back and forth. These vibrations could also occur with our tricycles. The dangerous and unpleasant phenomenon is prevented by the steering damper.

The steering damper is an oil pressure system. An aluminium cylinder filled with oil with a continuous steel rod. A piston with small holes is pressed back and forth on this rod with every steering movement. The oil flows from one chamber to the other. Since the passages are very small, the piston can only move slowly. The faster you try to move the piston, the more back pressure it builds up.

Practically all motorbikes on the market today are equipped with steering dampers. At KYBURZ, these are the DXP, DXS and DXC models. With slower types, the "flutter" occurs less.

eRod at Siemens PLM

Thanks to our Belgian partner Olivier Van Acker, the first meeting with Jan Debille took place at the Auto Salon in Brussels in January 2018.
Jan Debille's idea was to be able to use an electric vehicle for the simulation tests that Siemens conducts.
The eRod was the perfect match! Jan immediately saw the eRod as a potential technology demonstrator.
Since that first meeting, Siemens has ordered nine eRods. The vehicles are located in Belgium, China, Germany and the USA.
We are currently building one eRod for Germany and another for the USA.

If you have any questions about the project, contact Laurence Nève.

Good to know:
Siemens Industry Software develops and markets SISW LMS test systems, multi-domain simulation software and engineering services to support product design for critical performance parameters such as safety, fuel economy, noise and vibration, structural integrity and durability. SISW LMS is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and employs approximately 350 people.

New employees at KYBURZ

In order to be able to produce continuously during the summer holidays, two new employees started their induction last week: Ymer Ahmetxhekaj and Altin Mazreku will soon know all the tricks of the trade so that other staff members can go on holiday.

Organisational Development Session June 2021

On Thursday morning, 24 June 2021, the Extended Executive Board (EGL) met for its monthly Organisational Development (OE) meeting.
During the OE meetings, current topics for the further development of our company are discussed. The aim is to identify interdepartmental problems and to put together a team to solve them. Ideas are collected, problems discussed and decisions made. One month later, at the next OU meeting, the progress of the issues from the last OU is reviewed.

At this OU meeting we decided, among other things, to start a cooperation with the company TWICE. This means that TWICE will sell energy storage products in the future, which will be built from our 2nd Life cells. The production of the energy storage units will remain with us.

It was also decided to hold a soapbox talk. Martin Kyburz will then report on current topics and future developments. This will take place on 26.07.21 at 13:00. Please keep this date free, an invitation will follow.

Congratulations on the birth of a new generation

Patrick Gnepf became a father for the second time on Thursday 24 June.
Daughter Vivienne Eleni and mother are well and Patrick started his paternity leave today to spoil his family.

We congratulate him and wish him all the best and much joy!

Summer is here!

To help you get through the summer safely, here are a few tips to protect you from the sun:

Avoid direct sunlight during midday. UV radiation is strongest between 11:00 and 15:00.
Protect yourself with a sunshade, hat and clothing.

Rollerbude Thun GmbH

Service partner of KYBURZ

The company Rollerbude Thun exists since 1.10.2010 in Thun (BE). They are a service partner of KYBURZ and successfully look after the vehicle fleet of the Swiss Post in the Thun region. Fabian Schweri had a conversation with Peter Marti, the business owner.

Fabian Schweri: How would you describe the Rollerbude Thun in 3 sentences?

Peter Marti:

Small motivated business on the edge of Thun city centre.
We represent Piaggio, Vespa and Gilera.
We have been a KYBURZ service partner for years.
There is no such thing as can't
Fabian: What distinguishes your company, what is special about you?

Peter: We love our craft. The care and satisfaction of our customers is important to us.

Fabian: How long have you been KYBURZ service partners?

Peter: Since 2011. We have worked with the post office before and have been partners with KYBURZ since the beginning.

Fabian: What are your tasks as a service partner?

Peter: We operate the service and maintenance of the Post DXP / PAH as well as a small fleet of private DXP/S.

Fabian: How do you organise these tasks?

Peter: With a very well-functioning network to the vehicle managers of the post office, we coordinate the repairs in advance, which are done in the afternoon and leave the scooter shop on the same day.

Fabian: How many vehicles and which area are you responsible for?

Peter: Our area covers the entire letter centre of the Thun region - that corresponds to a radius of about 10 km. New this year is the Oberland with Zweisimmen, Gstaad and Lenk. We have 107 DXP and 98 PAH in maintenance.

Fabian: What do you do when you are not repairing DXPs?

Peter: We are fanatical Vespa fans. We sell, repair and restore Vespas with passion.

A Day in the Life of Giacomo Angiola "Jack"

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Giacomo Angiola: I have been with KYBURZ since 2013.

Erza: What are your activities?

Jack: I work on the production line and I know every step of the way. At every step, you fix something different on the vehicle, so you always have a bit of variety. When Fadil is away, I make sure the production line is running and if there are problems with the vehicles, I fix them. That way I can support Fadil well.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Jack: I always arrive at work at 6.45 a.m. and have a coffee first. Then I check where Fadil has assigned me, because we always rotate. Then I start the production.

Erza: What do you like? What not so much?

Jack: I like the team and that everyone is friendly. What I like less is when there are arguments and there is a lack of communication.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Jack: In my free time I like to play and watch football. I am a big AC Milan fan, so I always travel to Milan to watch a live match. I also like to go on trips with my girlfriend.

30 years KYBURZ Switzerland AG

Through history with Martin Kyburz

Another trade fair is coming up and the first solar ice cream "Babybuggy" for the Frisco company has to be delivered to Basel.

Once DXP - always DXP

He was one of the first test drivers of the DXP. Hansueli Michel was a postman in Grindelwald and his enthusiasm for the new vehicle probably contributed to Swiss Post's decision to use KYBURZ vehicles.

After retirement, Hansueli Michel is now on the road with his own KYBURZ vehicle: a 2ndLife vehicle in the red and white colours of the Grindelwald coat of arms. It is a steep 2 km from his typical, homely Bernese Oberland wooden house to the centre of Grindelwald: so he is glad to have a safe and reliable means of transport.

His sheep, which graze on various pastures in the expansive Grindelwald, can also look forward to regular visitors. In conversation, his wife lets it slip that she will definitely try out the vehicle sometime. KYBURZ wishes "a good and safe journey".

KYBURZ delivers to Austrian Post

We have sent the first batch of 19 vehicles to the Austrian Post. A total of 50 vehicles were ordered and will be delivered by the end of July. The special accessories, aluminium tray at the front and box at the rear, were specially designed for the customer. With this equipment, an Austrian postman can transport eight depot bags filled with letters. On 29 July 2021, Martin Kyburz will ceremoniously hand over the KYBURZ vehicles to the board of the Austrian Post and the Lord Mayor of Linz.

For questions about the vehicle with special accessories, contact Luca Botta.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

Object of the week: Brake strands

In many cases we simply call it a brake cable. The correct name for the sheath and the wire cable inside is "Bowden cable". The mechanical effect results from the interaction of the sheath. Many people have already got to know the system as a child when mending their own bicycle.

The strand, i.e. the wire rope, which is only 2 mm thick, has to withstand amazing forces: Our brake strand for the front brake has a tensile test force of 2.7 kN. So you should be able to suspend a mass of 270 kg from it.

Seven wires twisted together form a strand, seven of which are twisted together again. A cylindrical nipple is attached to one end of the cable, which is then hooked onto the brake.

Because our vehicles are usually braked with the electric motor brake (recuperation), the brake cable is not moved very often. To prevent the brake wire from rusting, we use an extra stainless steel wire. This means that the mechanical brake is always ready for use.

Product name vs alias vs nickname

ePedelec versus ePed versus Bumblebee

A nickname is a pseudonym that an artist, for example, chooses instead of his or her civil name. For Internet users, the nickname is a self-chosen designation for writing anonymous posts in blogs. In contrast, the nickname in German usage is rarely self-chosen, sometimes even unknown to the bearer of the name, as is often the case with teachers. Nicknames "do" much more than simply refer to a person. They reflect the social relationship and its emotional evaluation between two people. A product name is an indication that allows identification from a variety of makes.

The name ePedelec is a one-to-one KYBURZ product designation. For some of us, this designation is colloquially too long. That is why the four-wheeled mail carrier is increasingly called "ePed". Less gallant is the nickname "tractor", although a certain similarity to the indispensable farming tools cannot be denied. A pleasing nickname - discovered on the retrofit tour through Germany - was found for our ePed by the employees of the mail distribution centre in Aachen: "Bumblebee".

Bumblebee is a 2018 US action and science fiction feature film. In the film, "Bumblebee" is a yellow, giant-sized, steel robot (Transformer) and as a car he is a yellow Chevrolet Camaro with black rally stripes. The transformable behemoth also has a special logo.

Our ePedelec can't transform itself, but as a Bumblebee or a mail carrier it is energetic and powerful, has an extremely large load volume, is technically ultra-modern and in its own way, compared to many other cargo bikes - a beauty!

Young foxes in Freienstein

Behind the scrap metal dump near the loading ramp in Freienstein there is a fox den in the bush. The young foxes were also found in the sun during the day. The foxes were discovered by Thuri Bäuerle. The photo was taken by Monika Haldner.

The gamekeeper was there and gave us some tips:

  • DO NOT feed foxes
  • Shoo foxes away and drive them away
  • Keep away from the foxes

Foxes are wild animals and should not get used to humans. If they become trusting they must be shot down.

Closure of the bridge over the Töss at the Blumer site

The bridge over the Töss near the Blumer site is getting on in years and is in need of renovation. The renovation work will be carried out this summer. The bridge will have to be closed for the duration of the renovation. The full closure will begin on Monday, 20 June and is expected to last until Saturday, 31 October.

Please use the old Roman Bridge during the closure.

A day in the life of Valeria Frighetto

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Valeria Frighetto: I have been with KYBURZ since March 2020.

Erza: What are your activities?

Valeria: I work for the administration of the production. I prepare orders and print them out so that I can work with them in production. I also support the purchasing department with the purchasing mail.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Valeria: I start between 7.30 and 8.30 a.m. and always check my e-mails first thing in the morning. Every now and then I also receive important tasks from Brian and Roman that need to be done. Otherwise, I prepare the orders and then start working on the purchasing mail. I register the pre-assembly and production orders of the finished vehicles as produced in Pachi. For Australia or Finland, I assign the chassis number on the sales order and send it on to Djellza. If someone from production has problems with the iPad, for example with registration, I am also available to help. I'm usually there until 5.30 pm, depending on the job and the problems that need to be dealt with and solved.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Valeria: I like the whole team, all the employees of KYBURZ Switzerland AG. Everyone is very friendly, kind and has a great personality. I also particularly like the cohesion of the purchasing team.

What I like less is when there are disagreements or misunderstandings due to poor communication. But this is very rarely the case.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Valeria: When it is hockey season, I like to watch Ice Hockey. I also like to watch films and documentaries. I also like to spend my free time with Jeanne Mayeux.

Large order for KYBURZ from Swiss Post

KYBURZ Switzerland will continue to supply Swiss Post with vehicles for the next 6 years. We have been awarded the delivery contract.

The invitation to tender came in December 2020. Four different vehicles for postal delivery were requested under the dry title "Electric tricycles and trailers for delivery". We entered the race with our DXP and DXCargo tricycles, and the PAH and PAH-F trailers. We were awarded the contract for all four types of vehicles.

An important part of the contract is the maintenance of the products. We will continue to maintain and repair the vehicles together with our service partners and thus ensure that Swiss Post can perform its core task at all times: the distribution of letters and parcels.

Thus, in addition to our international orders, we were also able to win a major contract in Switzerland, where we will be allowed to supply various vehicles for up to 6 years. We thank Swiss Post for their trust and look forward to further constructive cooperation.

Drytech Race Cup - mountain race in Damüls

After all races of the Drytech Race Cup in Austria were cancelled or postponed due to Corona, the first mountain race of this year took place this weekend in Damüls - unfortunately without an audience.

Jann Haupt, the owner of the legendary eRod #007 with gullwing doors, took part in Damüls this weekend. Jann reported on a successful race weekend and kindly sent us a few pictures. His eRod made it through all the runs without any problems.
It should also be mentioned that Jann transported his eRod to Damüls in a trailer with a Tesla. He arrived fully electric!

We want to be there again for the next races.
If you are interested in taking part in such a race with an eRod, please contact Flurin Vicentini.

KYBURZ ePedelec Retrofit Tour at Deutsche Post

The retrofitting campaign for the ePedelec took just under two weeks. Florijan Blasevic and Hans-Peter Erni visited all 11 locations in the various federal states to make improvements to the delivery vehicles. Deutsche Post is conducting a long-term test with our vehicles. Feedback from the first six months from the postmen and the management had prompted us to make improvements to the vehicle, which simplify the daily work of mail delivery, prevent damage to the vehicle, make it less wet for the postmen and women in the rain, and increase the reliability of the vehicle.

The retrofit team was pleased to find that the vehicles are basically in excellent condition after a snowy winter and almost 6 months of testing. The robust construction and the high KYBURZ quality assurance were also reflected in the interview statements of the users and the service chiefs of the mail distribution centres we visited. Nevertheless, we had to conclude that assembly errors happened here and there, that there were design deficiencies and that the serviceability definitely needs to be improved.

We know the challenge of developing and producing a vehicle that can be used for years with little service effort and high availability.
With the ePedelec, we have already achieved a lot in record time. We are well on the way to a really good product.

Do you have any questions about the ePedelec? Hans-Peter Erni will be happy to answer them.

The latest TECH TALK with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

Object of the week: FVP vehicle distribution print

The switches and sensors on vehicles generate a lot of information that is transmitted through cables and triggers an action on the vehicle. All these signals converge in the FVP (vehicle distribution board) and are forwarded from there to the correct cables and receivers.

Up to 22 connectors with up to 20 pins in some cases can be plugged into the FVP. Among other things, there are connections to the battery management system, the ignition lock, the horn, the trailer socket, the control unit or the charger. Connections to the DCDC converter, the fleet box, the seat switch or the rear lights are further connections. The traction current to the engine does not run via the FVP.

Care has been taken to ensure that the various connectors on the PCB are all different, so that no connector from the wiring harness can be plugged into the wrong place on the PCB.

The ongoing development of the vehicles leads to regular adaptations of the FVP. More than a dozen versions are recorded in the article database. Which version of the FVP fits which vehicle is documented on the leaflet "MB014 Versions of the components". By the way, the current version V4.8.1 fits all vehicle versions.
The company DUXON in Tuggen, which is also KYBURZ service partner for postal vehicles, produces the FVP in Switzerland and also equips it with the connectors and electronic elements.

Air particle sensors in Freienstein and Embrach

Perhaps you have already asked yourself what these strange drainpipe parts are that have been hanging in Freienstein and Embrach (Tannenstr. and Industriestr.) for a few weeks. The answer is simple: they are the housings for self-made fine dust sensors! The sensors measure the air pollution (particle sizes PM10 and PM2.5) as well as the temperature and humidity every 10 minutes and send the data to the citizen science project "luftdaten.info" or "sensor.community" of the Open Knowledge Foundation / OK Lab Stuttgart. There you will also find instructions if you want to participate in the project yourself. All you need are the hardware components (costs: approx. CHF 40), a (USB) power connection and WLAN access. And at www.maps.sensor.community you can see a visualisation of the air quality generated from the sensor data.

Thorsten will be happy to answer your questions about the sensors.

We say goodbye

After a good two years at KYBURZ, Domas Kavoliukas had his last working day on Friday. He came to us from Lithuania and brought with him his knowledge of fleet support. In the future, Domas will pursue his previous hobby full-time and support Linux computers.

KYBURZ wishes all the best for the future and upcoming projects.

A day in the life of Daniel Weber

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Daniel Weber: I have been with KYBURZ since March 2013.

Erza: What are your activities?

Daniel: I started as a project manager in development and since mid-2019 I have been working as a team leader in further development. In addition to model upgrades of DXP, DXS and DX2, I am responsible, with strong support from Claudia Fesch, for various vehicle approval topics such as type approvals and individual approvals in Switzerland.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Daniel: First I check my emails and work on them. Then there is often a meeting, such as our weekly team meeting or a brainstorming session, where we work out ideas and solutions to technical challenges in a small group. The rest of the day I work on my own projects and tasks.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Daniel: I particularly like the varied range of activities. I also appreciate the flexibility of the company in terms of working hours and part-time work, as I also only work 80%. I also like the working atmosphere and the helpfulness among the employees.

I find it a pity that we are spatially separated with the three locations, which makes uncomplicated personal exchange among the departments difficult.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Daniel: I like to spend my free time with family and friends. When the weather is nice, I'm out on my bike or you can meet me outside working in the garden.

Garage Bürgler GmbH

Service partner of KYBURZ

The Garage Bürgler GmbH has operated in Ibach, SZ since April 1989. They have been a KYBURZ service partner since the beginning and successfully look after the Swiss Post's vehicle fleet. Fabian Schweri spoke to Werner Bürgler, the business owner.

Fabian Schweri: How would you describe Garage Bürgler in 3 sentences?

Werner Bürgler: 2nd generation family business, 3 employees: Werner, Sandro Bürgler and Roman Schmidig. Very versatile company with special vehicles for summer and winter operation as well as customer-specific solutions.

Fabian: What distinguishes your company, what is special about you?

Werner: "Can't be done, doesn't exist" - we have the solution for almost every problem with our special vehicles or constructions.

Fabian: How long have you been KYBURZ service partners?

Werner: We have been with you since the beginning.

Fabian: What are your tasks as a service partner?

Werner: Service, maintenance work and repair of crash damage.

Fabian: How do you organise these tasks?

Werner: The vehicles are transported from the post office to us and all work is done in-house and not on site.

Fabian: How many vehicles and which area are you responsible for?

Werner: There are about 60 vehicles with trailers in our fleet, which are located in Schwyz, Brunnen, Ibach, Gersau, Viznau, Walchwil (only DXC), Rickenbach, Illgau and Muotathal.

Fabian: What do you do when you are not repairing DXPs?

Werner: We offer service and sales of cars and commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, small equipment, quads, snowmobiles, boat engines and electric vehicles. I also run the Windstock restaurant in Rickenbach SZ together with my wife.

Success finally arrives - the two Solar Ice cars prove themselves. A simple, open sports car is created and participation in the Geneva Motor Show is renewed.

An electric boat on Lake Hallwil

Another boat has successfully completed its maiden voyage: our Claude Joller and the 2ndLife team helped to equip the boat "Electra" with an electric drive. Our part was to contribute the drive battery and the charger. The boat is used on Lake Hallwil by Markus Eichenberger from SSH Segelschule Hallwilersee AG. We wish the captain and all his students a hand's breadth of water under the keel at all times. We are glad to have helped to reduce pollution a little.

Good to know:

The whole electric boat project "Electra" is described in the bulletin of the Lake Hallwil Sailing School.
Anyone who would like to book a sailing lesson with the electric boat is welcome to contact the SSH.

Special exhibition at the «Verkehrshaus Lucerne»

On Saturday, 22.05.21, the special exhibition on "Swiss automobiles yesterday-today-tomorrow" was inaugurated at the Museum of Transport in Lucerne.

In the "Car Theatre", about 40 vehicles related to Swiss automobile construction are exhibited. The exhibition is divided into 7 themes: Montage Suisse, Racing, Vehicle Construction, Alternative Drives, Concept Cars, Carrossiers, Monteverdi.

We are pleased that the Swiss Museum of Transport is also showing our eRod Race in this context. The exhibition is very exciting and definitely worth a visit.

Good to know:
A second eRod, which you can sit in, and a DXP post simulator are permanently on display at the Museum of Transport.
The simulator simulates a postal delivery run. You can drive the DXP yourself through a virtual city and collect and deliver parcels. Martin Kyburz took the opportunity to test the simulator on Saturday.

Used vehicles in the showroom

Reconditioned second-hand vehicles are now on display in the showroom in Freienstein. The sales price is written on the vehicle. In future, prototypes or stock vehicles will also be exhibited and sold in the second-hand section.

Object of the week: Trailer coupling

When the DXP was introduced, Swiss Post also ordered new, braked trailers with a payload of 150 kg. The previous trailers were unbraked and approved for 80 kg total weight. To avoid confusion, it was decided to use a different trailer hitch.

KYBURZ developed its own system with the ball on the vehicle. Before approval, the design was extensively tested, including a vibration test. The design appears very solid, but large forces act on the ball of the coupling, which is approved for a towing load of 200 kg, when the trailer is fully loaded.

KYBURZ has a design protection on the trailer coupling. The bracket, which is equipped with a pin, locks the socket attached to the trailer. In addition to new couplings, KYBURZ also offers revised couplings at a reduced price.

Environmental audit ISO 14001

After a delay of several months, the ISO 14001 environmental audit took place last week. Mr Schardt, the auditor, travelled from Germany for the audit and spent one and a half days examining our company and its processes. The focus is always on the environmental aspect and how we integrate it into our actions. The auditor examines both the documentation and what happens on site. Last week, Mr Schardt, René Stoll, Joshua Zimmermann and Fillo Gecaj visited the production, development, fleet and 2ndLife departments, among others. During this whole time, deficiencies and suggestions are documented and should be fixed or implemented for the next year. This is how we ensure that KYBURZ meets the standard requirements and can thus call itself the holder of an environmental certificate. If you have any questions about the audit, contact Fillo.

Good to know:

A certificate is valid for three years. In between, surveillance audits take place to ensure that the requirements of the standard are still met. Our ISO 14001 certificate expires in February next year. Therefore, a recertification audit is planned for January 2022.

KYBURZ Switzerland AG supports the "SMARGO" pilot project

SMARGO (Shared Micro Cargo) is a pilot project initiated by the TCS Mobility Academy in cooperation with the cities of Bern, Basel and Lausanne. It is a sharing offer in which electrically powered vans can be rented by the hour. The service is aimed at both businesses and households. It is suitable for transporting bulky goods, such as large purchases, for bulky waste disposal and for delivering customer orders.

KYBURZ Switzerland AG was one of the first vehicle suppliers and was allowed to place one KYBURZ DXS 5.0 at each of the three locations. Other vehicle suppliers include Robert Aebi Landtechnik AG, Rikscha Taxi Schweiz AG and the Swiss eMobility association.

The pilot project started with a festive launch event: in Lausanne on 21 May 2021, in Bern on 27 May and in Basel on 28 May 2021. Even local politicians and representatives of mobility and sustainability organisations did not miss this event. They addressed the constant increase in traffic in the cities and the associated challenges and were convinced that they had found a suitable solution with the sharing service for electrically powered vans. And as a final highlight, the vehicles could be tested right away.

The vehicles can be booked via the website www.carvelo2go.ch or the app of the same name. The rental price is made up of a booking fee of CHF 5 and an hourly rate of between CHF 3 and CHF 3.50. The vehicles are available from 10 pm to 8 am. The hourly rate is waived from 10 pm to 8 am. Use requires a category B driving licence (passenger car).

If you have any questions about the project, please contact Lothar Seiler.

Switch to FileMaker 19

On Saturday, 5 June 2021, we moved our ERP, the Pachi, from the previous FileMaker 14 server to a new FileMaker 19 server. On Friday, at 6 pm, the complete status of Pachi was frozen, moved to the new server and restarted there. Thanks to the excellent planning and preparation by Claudio Realini, the move went smoothly and Pachi was already fully operational again on Saturday afternoon.

If you have any problems with the Pachi or discover something that is not yet running optimally, you can contact the Pachi team (Claudio Realini, Valeria Frighetto, Flurin Vicentini) at any time.

Good to know
To be able to connect to Pachi on the new server, you also need the new FileMaker 19 version on your PC or iPad. This has been installed by the IT team for all employees in the past weeks. If you don't have the version yet, you can use the instructions that Claudio sent to all staff members by email.

Deliveries to Finland

This year we are again allowed to deliver vehicles to Finland. The Finnish post office "posti" will receive 25 DXCargo, 25 trailers and 50 eTrolley. The corresponding winter equipment will also be sent along.
The delivery started at the end of May with a truck that has a capacity for 20 eTrolleys. To ensure that all eTrolleys could be delivered on time, our IT specialists Turi Bäuerle and Martin Schnelli actively supported the production. During about 120 hours, they jointly produced the first 30 eTrolleys. The logistics department made sure that the trolleys were properly packed and loaded. Many thanks to all involved for the great effort.

Good to know:
Coincidentally, exactly three years ago, eTrolleys were also sent to Finland. This autumn, another batch of all vehicles will be produced and sent to Finland as well.

Monday morning comes the vitamin courier

The health of our employees is close to our hearts. As a company, we are committed and offer them a lot in return:

Among other things, the Pfister family has been supplying us with mostly regional and seasonal fruit every Monday morning for over 10 years. The various departments receive a basket or box full of vitamins. When it comes to fruit, it is important that it is raised organically whenever possible. The less pesticides used, the better.

Ueli and Doris Pfister run the "Puurehof im Rüedi" in Freienstein and sell their produce at the markets.

New employee: Francesco Caiazza

The Production PLUS team is getting reinforcements. Franco Caiazza has started his work. He will now use his experience in assembling machines to ensure that the ordered PLUS IIs can be delivered on time.

Service bus: mobile workshop

Since the beginning of the year, we have had a Mercedes service bus, which we have gradually upgraded to a mobile workshop. Even though it looks pompous, the Mercedes can be driven with a normal car licence (category B).

All work on the interior has now been completed and the car/mechanic can show what he can do. The mobile workshop offers the same equipment as the service workshop in Freienstein.

All repairs are carried out on the lifting platform, which is mobile and mounted in the interior. The large worktop is equipped with vice and offers plenty of space to work. There are the most common screws and small parts in the bus, service material as well as drills, flex and special tools. We have also copied almost the entire inventory from the service warehouse, so we have everything we need with us when we are on tour.

Another plus point is the energy storage inside, which consists of 4 2ndLife 100 Ah blocks and a DC/AC converter with 4000 watts of power. The energy storage gives us the advantage of having power wherever we make a repair, even if there is no power outlet on site. We run a small 700 watt compressor and a radiant heater so that our fingers don't fall off while screwing in winter.
Of course, the microwave can also be plugged in to heat up lunch if necessary.
The storage unit is charged overnight at the socket - later even via solar cells mounted on the roof.

Despite all the equipment and the interior design, it is possible to transport up to 3 vehicles. So we can still take customer vehicles along on the tour. Of course, a trailer can also be attached.

The feedback from the service mechanics is very positive.
If only we had had the bus earlier :-)

Facts about the mobile workshop

The mobile workshop has already clocked up more than 8'000 km.
In April, a total of 38 services were carried out on-site, with one route saved for each of these services.
In April, a total of approx. 7 service tours were saved due to the omitted pick-up and drop-off routes.

A day in the life of Jeanne Mayeux

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Jeanne Mayeux: I have been with KYBURZ since August 2019.

Erza: What are your activities?

Jeanne: I am doing a commercial apprenticeship and I am now in my 2nd year. In the first year, I was in the office for half a year and then in development for another half a year. Now I've been in purchasing for almost a year and I'm entering my third year. Here I'm responsible for the purchase mail and orders, and I account for and check invoices when Stefanie is absent. I also get quotations and create and maintain articles. I am also responsible for the office supplies at Tannenstrasse.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Jeanne: When I arrive at the office, I first check my emails, some of which contain orders. Then I do any invoices and afterwards, I dedicate myself to the shopping email. In between, I get individual orders from time to time.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Jeanne: I like the variety and diversity of my work. I also like the company in general, it creates a good workplace where you feel comfortable.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Jeanne: I like to go to the forest and enjoy nature with my greyhound. I also like to spend my free time with Valeria.

Kart4Hope - 2nd place for the KYBURZ team!

On Sunday, 23.05.21, the Kart4Hope event took place in Cazis.
A total of 9 teams of four competed in a 2-hour go-kart race. The event was for a good cause: the Greenhope Foundation uses the proceeds to organise events that offer children with cancer and their families great experiences and some distraction from the fight against the disease.

KYBURZ sponsored two weekends of eRod rental as a prize for the race.

Tino Wehrli, Dani Weber, Florijan Blazevic and Flurin Vicentini signed up for the race as a private team. They were cheered on and supported by Mirjam and Sandra.
After very wet and slippery practice and qualifying laps, luckily the rain stopped and there was a great 2h race in the best weather. The KYBURZ team eventually made it to a strong 2nd place and got to pick a podium and a prize.

As our employer KYBURZ was also a sponsor of the event, the team decided to pass on the prize to the last-placed team. Everyone was enthusiastic about this sporting event and will certainly have fond memories of the KYBURZ team.

Many thanks to Tino, Dani, Flo, Mirjam and Sandra for supporting this great event with their sweat, their free time and their participation fees.

Good to know

The event in Cazis was one of numerous sports events for "Greenhope Day 2021".
Sporting events in aid of the Greenhope Foundation took place all over Switzerland.

Greenhope writes the following about its work:

We organise events to give children with cancer and their families some distraction and some happy and carefree moments.
Our goal is for the children fighting their cancer to experience such moments unburdened by the disease together with their peers and their families and thus gain shared experiences.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

eRod Spring Ride

On Saturday 29 May, the eRod spring ride took place for the second time. We invited all eRod riders and enthusiasts to a joint ride.
Christian Brunner, the owner of eRod #008, planned a great route for us from Embrach to Pfäffikon (ZH) to the Alpenrösli restaurant.

At 10.00 a.m. we started with eight riders on seven eRods. In perfect weather we rode on beautiful country roads from Embrach to Pfäffikon (ZH). On the way, Dani Honegger took a few photos of the eRod convoy.
In the restaurant we all had lunch together and talked about the eRod.

We had a great ride together and are already looking forward to the next one!

Good to know:

Erik Schilb accompanied us, as he did on the autumn ride in 2020. This time in eRod #007 by Jann Haupt. He runs the YouTube channel "Denk elektrisch" and has made an interesting YouTube video about the eRod.

Object of the week: Battery cover

The plastic parts on KYBURZ vehicles bring colour to life and are essential to the design of the vehicles. An important task is also their protective function. They protect the driver from rotating parts or large currents, but at the same time also protect the installed technology from influences such as water and dirt.

The parts are produced in a deep-drawing process. Plastic sheets are heated until they are soft and bendable. A vacuum is then created with which the plastic is sucked over a mould. The plastic parts on the KYBURZ vehicles are supplied by swissplast® in Sargans. The company is strongly committed to the complete compensation of CO2 emissions.

The plastic parts in the standard colours are produced from solid-coloured sheets. If there is a scratch, no other colour appears. Special colours are lacquered.

Congratulations on the new generation

Congratulations to Fanfan and Philipp Heim on the birth of their daughter Lea. Fanfan and Lea are doing well. We wish the whole family much joy and strength for their new phase of life. Philipp is taking his well-deserved paternity leave and will not be back in the company for another month.

We say goodbye

On 31 May, Louis Bischof had his last working day. Louis was able to help us with many projects as a plastics specialist and left us to realise his wish of a longer journey.

We wish Louis all the best for the future.

Fleet reservation for boat rental

In one of the last issues of the in-house newspaper, we presented the complete solution for boat monitoring from Fleet. This time we show the other, simple variant for boat rental companies.

With Fleet's reservation function and the compact, waterproof Fleet-Box OCV, we offer the ideal equipment to gain a foothold in the boat market. This way, a rental company not only has its boat management under control, but also has an overview of the current location, the distances travelled and the actual rental period at all times.

The compact, waterproof Fleet Box is quickly installed and, thanks to its small size, can be discreetly accommodated even in a small boat. It can thus also be easily used for theft protection for boat owners. The integrated battery provides position information for 7 days even when the power supply is cut off.

The first sample installation was carried out last week. Martin Kyburz, owner of a historic wooden boat, is the first user of the system. The weather is improving and so we will surely have a nice showcase for boat owners and landlords soon.

Stay fit - Yoga with Wiebke

Every week on Thursday morning there is a varied lesson. This week it's yoga. Meeting point at 07.00 in the Move & Dance studio. If you are interested, please register by email with Sabine Lickert by noon on Tuesday, 01.06.21, 14.00.

Visit to Zurich Zoo

Our staff member Djellza Zekaj recently visited Zurich Zoo with her little cousin. Here she reports on her impressions:

We were lucky with the weather, as for once the sun was shining. We had to park far away, but we could use the zoo's free parking shuttle and drive right up to the entrance.

We were with the monkeys, lions, tigers and snow tigers, the penguins and the little pandas. We saw all the animals we had planned to see. There are also great playgrounds where the children could let off steam. Although I had to wear a mask, I could take it off to eat and drink. This is not a problem for the children as they don't have to wear one.

Good to know:
The four company annual passes are free for our employees and their families. They can be reserved and obtained from Sabine.
For a successful excursion into the animal world, please inform yourself in advance via the zoo website which measures are currently to be observed for the visit.

Remote training for KYBURZ service partners

The training of our partners, both in Switzerland and abroad, is a very important element for KYBURZ. During the training, the partners are specifically trained on the technology of our vehicles as well as on our company. This way we can guarantee the best service to our customers worldwide.
Due to current restrictions, we have had to redesign our training courses so that they can also be held remotely (via the internet). At the beginning of the year, we trained our Swiss partners with this system.
This was followed by B-level training for our Norwegian and Finnish partners with a focus on the KYBURZ eTrolley.

Building on this experience, an online basic training for some new B-level partners took place on 20 May, which this time focused on the DXP and the PAH.
This training brought together our Austrian partners, our partners from Northern Macedonia and new staff from our Swiss partners. A total of thirteen participants were able to follow the different modules and ask their questions to our trainers:

  • Ali Shabani: Mechanics
  • Abel Olaechea: Electronics and diagnostics
  • Hanspeter Wepfer: Fleet Management
  • Eric Nève: Company Presentation and Admin

The whole thing was coordinated by Willy Federer, who normally works on technical documentation and was responsible for the technical implementation.
After our training, the partners had to take an online exam to receive the corresponding certificate.

Employees wanted

An important factor for a successful company are its employees.

We have many interesting projects in the pipeline and are always opening up new markets. Vacancies are always posted on the homepage. Why don't you take a look? Maybe you know someone who fits one of the job descriptions.

A day in the life of Joriek Abreu

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Joriek Abreu: I have been with KYBURZ since 2012.

Erza: What are your activities?

Joriek: I am the head of PLUS production at Industriestrasse. We not only produce PLUS vehicles here, but also trailers and eTrolleys.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Joriek: I always start work between 07:00 and 07:30. When we have gathered in the team, I distribute the production orders and the pre-assembly orders. I have already set the priorities the night before. Then I make orders and we get the material from the warehouse for pre-assembly. I work 80% of the time at PLUS and check the finished orders and vehicles. Every now and then I'm also at meetings. We work very closely with purchasing and development, which also has to do with the orders and when there are specials. There may be a special order that has a high priority. We then discuss this with the purchasing department. I always work until around 4.00/16.30 pm.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Joriek: What I like very much is that it is never boring and the work is very varied. You gain a different experience with every vehicle.

What I like less is the distance between the different locations.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Joriek: Dancing is my passion. But I also like to do weight training or go mountain biking. I also spend a lot of time with my children.

The most successful Facebook post by KYBURZ

KYBURZ celebrates its 10th Facebook anniversary on 30 May. And exactly last week, the most successful post ran!

Last week's post set a KYBURZ record: 119'164 people (as of 25.5.2021) saw it! 7'831 interactions were counted (626 likes, 246 comments, 65 shared content, over 2100 photo views).

How does this come about when the KYBURZ page has "only" 1200 subscribers? A page with 34,000 subscribers shared the post. As a result, these subscribers also saw the post, which was then shared again - also in Germany, Holland and Poland.

This cannot be planned but it is a nice surprise! Help spread the word about KYBURZ Facebook posts. Subscribe to the page and share a post from time to time.

KYBURZ posts on Facebook are trilingual (DE/FR/EN). You will see them in the language your mobile/computer is set to.
Do you feel confident in one language and could translate and write the texts correctly? Contact Daniel Honegger!

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

Object of the week:
display Curtis enGage®II

All drivers of KYBURZ vehicles regularly look at the Curtis enGage®II display, which shows the battery charge level and the current speed. When the vehicle is switched on, the total kilometre reading is briefly displayed. The display is connected to the central control unit and receives the information from there. Both parts come from the Curtis company.

The display is also important in the event of a malfunction. The liquid crystal display (LCD) then shows an error number and an LED lights up. This number tells the service technician what the fault is. In this way, work can be started in a targeted manner.

Good to know:
Are you interested in the engine temperature, the battery voltage or the current flowing? The display also shows this information. Press the left button (MODE) and wait about 5 seconds until the display changes. With the same button (short press) you can call up one parameter after the other. To return to normal mode, stop the vehicle briefly and restart it. Nothing can be changed!

MaXX2 - a heavy worker

The KYBURZ heavy worker MaXX has been revised! The MaXX2 is designed for people weighing up to 300 kg. Newly based visually on the DX2, it is the last KYBURZ three-wheeled vehicle that has now been converted to lithium batteries as standard.

The suggestion to build a vehicle for heavy people came more than 20 years ago from the saleswoman of our Dutch reseller. More than 200 MaXX vehicles have already been sold there. The MaXX2 was eagerly awaited in Holland and is eagerly ordered. In Switzerland, 4 MaXX have been delivered so far.

The MaXX2 is technically based on the KYBURZ drivetrain, which proved itself in the DXP/DXS/DX2. The chassis, suspension, seat and brakes are more powerful. The MaXX2 is available with the narrow rims on the rear axle (up to 220 kg payload) and with the wide rims (300 kg payload).

Good to know:
Many heavyweight people gain a lot in personal mobility with the MaXX2. This makes them more active and quite a few have lost dozens of kilos after a purchase!

News from KYBURZ Asia

Anyone who has ever been on holiday in Thailand will be familiar with the typical Thai "long tail boats", which take you quickly, uncomfortably and with a lot of burnt petrol smell across the canals and rivers.

This type of boat was electrified with Swiss support and realised locally by Rolf Aeschbacher from the company AERO Solar and Automation Co. Ltd.

The boat can be used almost self-sufficiently when it is used as a shuttle boat; with longer rest periods in the harbours each time. This gives the large solar roof enough time to charge energy for the return trip.

The boat has been upgraded with a KYBURZ Fleet System, which can transmit position and other technical data. At the moment it is still on dry land, but very soon the boat will be roaring through the "Khlong", as the Thai canals are called.

In Freienstein we are also looking into electric boats. Which team will be the first to go electric? We'll stay tuned.

If you have any questions about the "long tail boat" in Thailand, please contact Martin Mathis.

Fleet Exception Report for Service in Australia

The DXP fleet in Australia currently comprises 2136 vehicles spread across the continent. Service is carried out by local service partners supported by KYBURZ Pty.

With the large number of vehicles, there are naturally many service cases and it is quite challenging to keep track of the most urgent cases. The Fleet System supports our colleagues down under with an exception report. This report lists only the most important cases, e.g. vehicles:

whose battery voltage has dropped below 24.8 V, i.e. which are on the verge of deep discharge.
whose energy consumption has been above the warning limit for more than 5 days.
which had an error or warning the previous day.
The report is sent in Excel format and also includes the vehicle location and the number of days a problem has been pending. In this way, Joshua or Bent as the recipient can further filter and sort the list according to their own needs and intervene specifically with the post office or the service partners.

Hanspeter Wepfer will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Elektromobile Bayern GmbH (Emobay)

Reseller KYBURZ Switzerland AG

Elektromobile Bayern GmbH (Emobay) is the leading specialist company for electric mobility in Bavaria. They are also a provider of repairs and maintenance for these vehicles as well as a long-standing official sales partner of KYBURZ Switzerland AG. We spoke with Mr. Gerhard Putz (Director of Emobay).

Djellza Zekaj: How would you describe the company Emobay?

Gerhard Putz: The company Elektromobile Bayern GmbH (Emobay) is a leader in the Bavarian region for electric mobility for senior and municipal vehicles.

Djellza: What distinguishes your company, what is special about you?

Gerhard: Emobay is characterised by the fact that we fulfil special customer requests and provide on-site service and repairs. We also have a very large stock of different electric vehicles in our showroom.

Djellza: How long have you been KYBURZ distributors and how did it come about?

Gerhard: We have been a KYBURZ Switzerland AG sales partner for almost 10 years. We got into this because we were convinced of the quality of KYBURZ vehicles right from the start.

Djellza: What are your tasks as a sales partner?

Gerhard: First and foremost, our job is to broker and sell KYBURZ vehicles. We are also responsible for their maintenance and repair.

Djellza: What do you do besides selling KYBURZ vehicles?

Gerhard: We sell, maintain and repair many different brands of electric vehicles. We also arrange stair lifts and electric wheelchairs.

Djellza: Is there anything else you would like to say?

Gerhard: That the cooperation with KYBURZ Switzerland AG is always perfect at all times and in every column. Here I would like to give a big praise.

A Day in the Life of Nicolas Cukas

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Nicolas Cukas: I have been with KYBURZ for 3 years since 1 May.

Erza: What are your activities?

Nicolas: I work in the Fleet Management team as a Senior Frontend Engineer. My main job is to develop new features for our platforms. In addition, there are many other activities, such as planning new products or features, meetings, design workshops, code reviews and sprint planning/preparation.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Nicolas: Every morning we always have a Daily Standup, which is like a small team meeting. In this, we coordinate with each other and exchange ideas. In the course of the day, there are other meetings and conversations among ourselves. Even if you don't think it, in software development communication is an essential skill and therefore an important basis for a programmer. Of course, a large part of my day also goes into programming new features and thus into the further development of our product. Another part of my work consists of sprint planning and design workshops every now and then.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Nicolas: There is nothing I don't like about what I do. I like the interactions with different people, solving complex problems and proving my creativity every day.

It's also nice to see that everyone in my team works with full passion. That's an extra motivation.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Nicolas: In general, I am very passionate about technology. I teach at a technical college how to develop virtual reality and in my free time, I am working with a small team on a virtual reality game at the same time. In addition, I am filming and photographing and trying my hand at VFX (computer-generated effects in films). A big-time eater at the moment is my Master's thesis in Human-Computer Interaction Design, which I will finish at the end of the year.

eTrolley Test in Australia

For some time now, Australia Post has been testing four eTrolleys 4.2 Model Finland. Last week we received feedback from Australia Post on the test deployment. The test was very positive. Most of the postmen were very enthusiastic about the new vehicle. This is also reflected in the short list of customisation requests from Australia Post. Besides the horn being too quiet, the main points are the addition of a bottle and scanner holder and the addition of a pocket for letter post.

These points are easy to improve. In the foreseeable future we will present the requested changes to Australia Post.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

Object of the week: Tailgate

The tailgate is more than just the holder for the number plate. It closes the only lockable box of the standard vehicle (DXP, DXS, DX2, MaXX2) with the helmet compartment. The helmet compartment has changed its purpose somewhat over time. There is no room for modern full-face helmets in it, but the classic jet helmets without a chin section can be stowed away well in it.

However, the tailgate is also important as protection for the technical connections housed in the helmet compartment. Not only is the C13 charging socket located there, there are also sockets for accessing the vehicle controls and the charger. The easy accessibility of this connection is important for service, as software updates are installed or the fault memory is read out via this interface.

Last but not least is the unlocking of the parking brake in the helmet compartment. Once it is locked, no one can push the vehicle away. The hinge that connects the tailgate and the bottom of the helmet compartment is firmly riveted and is also used in piano construction. They are only sold together.

Good to know:
The recesses on the tailgate next to the hinge are intentional. Not for ventilation, but so that the charging cable can be passed through. This makes it possible to lock the tailgate with the key while charging is in progress.

Heiko's entry into production

Since Monday, I have been seconded from 2nd Life to Industriestrasse to help out with PLUS II and eTrolley production. I started assembling the parts on the PLUS II chassis at Janik Fontana's. The assembly instructions on the laptop helped me. For me the assembly is very instructive, so I can prepare PLUS II-Occasions in 2nd Life in the future. Due to my deafness, I work a lot with the assembly instructions, so I can continue with the assembly quickly. If difficulties arise, I ask Joriek. He helps me and explains how to proceed. For me it is quite interesting to assemble the Plus II, because I will be able to use the expanded knowledge in 2nd Life.

I help out Turi and Martin with the assembly of the eTrolleys for the Finnish Post. I like to work in a different department and also like to help out if someone is out for a longer period of time. This way I can increase the general knowledge at KYBURZ, so that I can fill in in all departments later if I am needed. In short: KYBURZ - WORK WITH LOVE!

ELVITEN successfully completed

At the beginning of last week, the formal review of the ELVITEN project was completed by the European Commission. The project is considered a complete success by the EU.

We are proud to have been involved in the ELVITEN project. The aim was to study the impact of the integration of electric vehicles in urban areas, using six European cities as examples. All the data was collected with our Fleet Management System.

Good to know:

If you want to know more about the ELVITEN project, you can read it in our article published in week 51/2020.

Our showroom: more than just a show

As a showroom, the showroom in the Shedhalle in Freienstein is well known. As a presentation venue for all KYBURZ products, it is intended to be a showcase salon for visitors. But the showroom is much more than that. It is the place for guided tours, lectures, events, training courses, meetings and sales.

Would you like to use the Showroom? Reserve it via the calendar in Outlook like any other meeting room. The same rules apply as in the other meeting rooms: Put the tables and chairs back in order and use cleaning materials if necessary. The room should always give a good first impression to our guests.

If you have any questions about how to control the lights or operate the beamer and screens, please feel free to contact Luca Botta. The 2ndLife team is also in the lead for everyday tidiness and regular cleaning.

Good to know:
A professional photo flash system is permanently installed in the showroom. All studio pictures with a white background that you find on the homepage and in brochures, leaflets or instructions were taken there.

A day in the life of Rolf Menzi

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Rolf Menzi: I have been with KYBURZ since January 2014.

Erza: What are your activities?

Rolf: I work in development. I started with the development of the eTrolley and in the past 2 to 3 years I have seamlessly added the development of the ePedelec. Parallel to this is the eTrolley troubleshooting and the further development of the eTrolley. With the ePedelec, it's a mixture of new development, further development, building up the small series and testing.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Rolf: My daily routine starts early in bed, where I first have to make the difficult decision of whether to go to work by e-bike or electric car. According to my choice of transport, I thus start work between 08:00 and 08:30. Depending on the availability of our project leader in the ePedelec team (Hans-Peter Erni), I consult with him first or process the e-mails first and answer those that are most urgent. Since my open tasks around the ePedelec and the eTrolley are getting more and more instead of less, my closing time is always between 6 and 7 pm.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Rolf: In principle, I am very happy to be able to work here at KYBURZ and to help make mobility more environmentally friendly on a broad basis. In particular, I am pleased to be active in the ePedelec team with so many motivated and open-minded employees.

What I like less is that I have lost direct contact with many of the development staff because they had to move to Embrach.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Rolf: In my free time I like to look after our 2-year-old grandson with my wife. I also do a lot of sport, which includes: e-biking, jogging, swimming, hiking, racing bikes and inline skating. But I also like to laze around, where I often switch from active to passive sports and let my sports idols sweat for me on the TV. Currently, I have picked up an additional hobby by "qualifying" for the Circular Economy Challenge.

KYBURZ battery recycling on SRF Einstein

Last Thursday, 6 May, the programme "Einstein" was broadcast on SRF under the title "Electric cars in Switzerland - how ecological are they today? This episode was also about our battery recycling. The team from the knowledge magazine "Einstein" recently visited KYBURZ and filmed the whole process - from removing the batteries to breaking them down into their individual components.

The result is an interesting programme in which Einstein answers the questions "Is it better to buy an electric car these days? Too expensive, not ecological enough; or not after all?".

Good to know:

The contribution on battery recycling starts at minute 25.20. But it is worth watching the whole episode :-)

Object of the week: Rubber battery cover

The phenomenon was already known in the senior vehicles: When getting on and off, the grazing soles of shoes left abrasions and scratches on the battery cover. As delivery staff frequently get on and off, unsightly spots were expected. With the introduction of the DXP, the cover was covered with a rubber for the first time.

The NBR rubber used is very weather-resistant and also resistant to oils and greases. The rubber, which is self-adhesive on one side, is glued to the plastic cover by hand during production. The rubber has proven its worth and is now also installed in senior vehicles.

The rubber mat on the battery cover - affectionately called "waterfall" at KYBURZ due to its visual appearance - is nothing more than a protection against scratches and abrasion.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

KYBURZ im TCS-Magazin «Touring»

Over 1,400,000 copies of each issue of the TCS magazine "Touring" are printed in German, Italian and French. The last special issue "eMotion" featured a two-page article about KYBURZ with a focus on our delivery vehicles.

Many Swiss people interested in mobility will be amazed when reading the beautiful presentation of selected products and the list of countries where our vehicles are in use and in what numbers.

The starting signal for the CE Challenge has been given

The 6 teams in the ECO category and the 11 teams in the OPEN category are about to pick up the used DXP vehicles and implement their ideas.

We wish the teams a lot of fun! We are already excited and looking forward to the interim reports in mid-June. Then we will present the individual teams and their projects. In the meantime, you can follow the teams on Instagram "challengebykyburz".

If you have any questions, please contact Erik Wilhelm.

Australia has commissioned all delivered DXP

On the occasion of the commissioning of the last vehicles from the first and second large order of the Australian Post, the person responsible for the implementation of our vehicles in Australia wrote Martin a thank-you email. We would like to share it with you here:

"Hi Martin,
I just wanted to share some great news with you, but also thank you and your team for the professional and caring support on this journey. We have implemented all Phase 1 and 2 HCV's on time and will now turn our attention to Phase 3.
Many thanks to all of you. This has truly been a team effort with many challenging hurdles (lol), but there have been many more moments of joy and laughter along the way. We are breaking new ground on all fronts here in Australia and so far no one has stopped us.
One day we will be able to sit down and have something to eat and drink.
Thanks again!"

At this point, a big thank you to the whole team! Without the contribution of all of you, the delivery and commissioning of 2136 vehicles would not have been possible.

Individual project work by our trainees

As part of their training to become a mechapraktiker (EBA) or production mechanic (EFZ), our apprentices do an Individual Project Work (IPA).
This project work is carried out in the training company, i.e. at KYBURZ. It includes a practical part, documentation in report form and a final presentation to an external expert. The work is assessed by the expert at the end.
Our apprentices each do a comprehensive reconditioning of a used vehicle as project work. In this work, the trainees can demonstrate all the skills they have learned in their training.
The vehicle is completely dismantled, welded and repaired where necessary and then completely reassembled.
The apprentice documents the entire process in his report and finally presents his work to his instructor and the expert.

Bryan Gonzalez and Altin Gashi have already completed their IPA, but the assessment will only be announced together with the final grade.

Igor will do his IPA at the end of May.

We congratulate Altin and Bryan on completing their IPA and wish Igor every success for his IPA.

There will be no Thursday morning lesson during the Ascension week

Here are a few tips on how you can still keep fit this week:

- Vitaparcours
- Yoga/Pilates with YouTube
- Swimming in the outdoor pool for the hardy ????
- Jogging / Nordic Walking / long walk
- bike tour
- Rollerblading
- Hiking

Have fun!

A day in the life of Diane Félix

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Diane Félix: I have been with KYBURZ since 1 August 2020.

Erza: What are your activities?

Diane: My activities are very different, but basically you can say that I am responsible for the legal side together with Claudia. I process contracts from our partners, which means that if someone internally asks for a contract, I send it to him/her. If we don't have a contract yet for a certain product or situation, such as our new energy storage system, then a new contract is drawn up. I am also responsible for checking non-disclosure agreements and filing the contracts. I also do legal research, which includes, for example, the research on the registration of ePedelecs and also the conditions for being able to drive the vehicle. My tasks are also partly project-related: Depending on what legal questions arise within one project of the others, I also provide support there.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Diane: My daily routine is very untypical because apart from the more mundane things, you never know what request will come in and I am always working on different things. My working hours are always between 07.30-08.00 until about 17.30.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Diane: I particularly like the fact that different activities always enrich my working day and so I can see different areas and understand the connections better.

What I like less is that it can sometimes be a bit tedious if you have to wait longer for feedback from others in order to be able to complete a contract, for example.

Erza: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Diane: Besides spending time with my family and friends, I make sure I do regular sports such as jogging and weight training. I also enjoy learning new languages. At the moment I am learning Spanish. I also like to cook and bake, so I like to try out recipes (this also has to do with the fact that I like to eat ;-). Furthermore, I like books very much. On the one hand, I like novels and on the other hand, I find books about self-development and psychology very exciting because it broadens my horizon and I learn a lot.

Chris back in Australia after a year

Chris Lake, an American living in New Zealand, was responsible for the introduction of the KYBURZ DXP at New Zealand Post. After leaving New Zealand Post, he started working for us and has since been responsible for communication with Australia Post. Chris lives in New Zealand. Therefore, before Corona, he spent a lot of time travelling from New Zealand to Australia and back to meet our team in Australia and Australia Post. He was also heavily involved in training our service partners in Australia.

In March 2020, just before the first vehicles of Australia Post's second 1000 order arrived, New Zealand closed its borders due to Corona and it was no longer possible for Chris to travel. So for the last year, he supported the team in Australia and Switzerland from his home office. Arrangements with Australia Post were also all moved to digital channels.

Quarantine-free travel between Australia and New Zealand resumed in mid-April 2021, allowing Chris to travel to Australia for the first time in over a year.

The team discussed the upcoming delivery of the vehicles currently being produced in Embrach and the general situation with Australia Post, including new prototype vehicles and the eTrolley. In the evening, the whole team met for dinner.

The next day Chris flew to Canberra to meet with Colin Hindle, Australia Post Manager. Colin is responsible for all KYBURZ vehicles in Australia. Over the last three years, Colin and Chris have met at least once a month. So it was an enjoyable event when the two were able to see each other live again after more than a year. They discussed the upcoming KYBURZ DXP deliveries and the ongoing tests with the eTrolley. They also talked about the DXP 7.0 prototype, which is currently being developed here in Switzerland.

At the end of his trip, Chris' travel plans were thrown into a bit of disarray: New Zealand temporarily suspended flights from Sydney due to new covid cases in the area.

In a roundabout way, Chris made it back to New Zealand. Chris will probably continue to work from home for the most part.

We hope that the daily routine will soon return and he will be able to have more face-to-face contact with clients and colleagues.

Do you have any questions about KYBURZ Australia? Chris Lake or Philipp Heim will be happy to answer them.

New employee: Patrick Gnepf

Patrick Gnepf is a new member of Mario Fischer's Fleet Support team. The support team tests newly developed functions and shows customers how they can use Fleet better. As a point of contact for service partners (e.g. in Australia or Holland), they analyse error messages from postal vehicles. When fleets are commissioned and equipped with Fleet, they make sure that the data arrive correctly in the system.

We wish you a good start!

News from the Fleet team: conclusion of the winter maintenance season in the canton of Valais

The season for winter services in the canton of Valais has come to an end. Snow ploughs and salt spreaders go back to the depot for the summer overhaul. For the first time, the recording and invoicing of all winter service assignments were carried out completely electronically via our Fleet System. The changeover from paper operation to electronic order processing was a big step for many of the 120 cantonal officials and road maintenance workers. Automatic invoicing with Fleet takes place over several stages. The system independently calculates the deployment and billing data and sends it to the persons responsible for the necessary approvals in two stages.

A total of around 20,000 assignments were recorded in the past season. Almost half of these were billed to private subcontractors.  The rest were carried out by the canton's own vehicles.

Thanks to good training by the canton and support from the KYBURZ hotline, the changeover worked well. A feedback workshop held by the canton showed that the users get along well with the system and rely on the billing data without reservations.

Do you have any questions? Hanspeter Wepfer will be happy to provide information.

Volvo becomes main investor in Designwerk

We congratulate the company Designwerk on this success. The founders of Designwerk in Winterthur are well known to us. Frank Loacker worked at KYBURZ and Tobias Wülser worked on the design of the first DXP.

For some time now, Designwerk has been developing and producing, among other things, conversions of trucks into electric trucks under the brand name "Futuricum". Volvo's entry as the main investor in Designwerk shows that a Swiss company has developed a technology that is of interest to a major player in the truck industry.

We see this as a confirmation of Designwerk's work and hope that this cooperation will strengthen the technology and result in many electric trucks. The environment will thank us.

DXS in use by the Horn fire brigade

The Horn fire brigade in the canton of Thurgau has added a new vehicle to its fleet: a KYBURZ DXS. The fire brigade was looking for a flexible, CO2-neutral vehicle that was also good value for money. Horn has many secondary roads and a DXS is perfect for closing off roads quickly and efficiently.

On Thursday, 22 April, the time had come: the first general exercise after more than a year took place. A fire with rescue of persons in the community centre had to be dealt with. The traffic platoon immediately set out to close the roads. In addition to the DXS, a Citroën Berlingo is also in use. Pascal Widmer, who was directing traffic with the DXS during the exercise, says: "We were all looking forward to the DXS. It has great acceleration, is agile and really fun to drive. The DXS is perfect for traffic control."

Lothar Seiler was responsible for the purchase of the vehicle.

We wish the Horn fire brigade a safe journey at all times.

Do you have any questions about the vehicle? Lothar Seiler will be happy to answer them.

Organisational Development Session April 2021

On Wednesday and Thursday, 22 & 23 April, the Extended Executive Board (EGL) met for the monthly Organisational Development (OE) meeting.
During the OE meetings, current topics for the further development of our company are discussed. The aim is to take the company one step further in these topics. Ideas are collected, problems are discussed and decisions are made. The tasks that we define in the meeting are then taken back to the team. One month later, at the next OE meeting, the progress of the topics from the last OE is reviewed.
At the OE meeting in April, the following topics, among others, were moved forward:

Energy storage products
The sales process for energy storage products was pushed forward so that the products can be offered and sold immediately.

Transparency in vehicle prices
Decision that every vehicle at KYBURZ should have a price tag so that every employee has the opportunity to sell the vehicle at the right price at any time.

Vehicle rental
Optimisation of the rental process with the aim of simplifying the rental process for customers and also internally (rental processing in <15 min)

Stock reduction
Measures and new processes defined to reduce the large stock of vehicles and material (sale of used vehicles, analysis of material stock).

At the end of the two days, we received very positive feedback. We return to everyday life full of verve and carry this positive energy back into the company.

The latest TECH TALK by and with Martin

An episode from my new video diary TECH TALK will appear weekly. It will be published on our homepage and on YouTube. Become an insider and follow my YouTube channel. You will get interesting insights into the world of KYBURZ.

Object of the week: Front mudguard wing

On bikes they are called mudguards, on cars mudguards. KYBURZ calls them mudguards. They protect your own vehicle from dirt and splashes. In wet weather, they prevent water from being swirled up from the road so that following vehicles have good visibility and are not soiled. Another function is to cover the rotating wheels so that injuries can be prevented.

The material and shape of the mudguards on KYBURZ vehicles has changed over time. The first CLASSIC were equipped with mudguards made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic in the colour of the vehicle. Chrome-plated versions and models made of non-corrosive material followed. Most of them still had a splash protection flap made of rubber fitted.

Since 2015, KYBURZ has been fitting mudguard wings made of the recyclable material HDPE (high-density polyethylene). They are injection moulded in Switzerland, are very light and have the splash protection flap already integrated in the mould.

We have developed the HDPE plastic mudguard wings especially for our vehicles.
They offer the following advantages over all other mudguards:

- Break-proof & dimensionally stable (there are no dents in case of collisions).
- No corrosion
- Material is fully recyclable
- Mounting / fixing points are directly integrated in the part
- Lightweight (weight saving on the vehicle)
- Splash protection flaps directly integrated

Fleet Ahoi!

In order to evaluate whether the Fleet system is also suitable for use on the water, I equipped Martin Kyburz's boat with the Fleet. In addition to the Fleet Box, I integrated various sensors (door sensor, flow meter, water level sensor, etc.) into the boat in order to be able to measure other variables not recorded by the boat, such as fuel consumption. In addition, the camera mounted on the deck enables a simple visual check of the boat's condition after a storm, for example.

In the course of these installations, I also installed a 2ndLife battery in the boat in cooperation with Yunus Ruff to ensure a permanent supply of power to the Fleet Box.

At the moment, we are still working on the integration of an echo sounder, with which it will be possible to measure the water depth below the boat in the future. This will not only make it possible to see whether the boat was travelling in shallow water, but also to create a topographical map of the river/lake bottom up to a maximum water depth of 30 metres.

For me, this work marks the end of a great internship at KYBURZ.

Do you have any questions about the project? Hanspeter Wepfer will be happy to answer them.

The first "Australian" of the 3rd series rolls off the production line

Last week we finished producing the first DXP of the third large order from Australia Post.

New book: Small Electric Vehicles

You can read about the KYBURZ company in a new book published by the DLR (German Aerospace Center).

In the book you will get a comprehensive overview of small electric three- and four-wheel vehicles with international reference. The current state of the technologies, the market situation and the most important hindering factors for market success as well as options for achieving a higher market share including new mobility concepts are highlighted.

Martin, Wilfried and Erik have written a chapter for this book on the successful use of the vehicles we produce. Find out more and download the book for free at the link.

Erik Wilhelm is looking forward to your feedback.

A new showroom in Japan

Our partner in Japan, Mr. Koichi from Eventas Co, Ltd. opened a new showroom in Yokohama - a popular city near Tokyo. The showroom is very modern in design. There is enough space to display one of our vehicles, a meeting table (with engraved KYBURZ logo) and other accessories. There is even a separate meeting room with space for up to six people. A professional lighting system ensures that our vehicle is shown in the right light. If you look closely, you can even see the great promotional film that Mr Koichi made. It is prominently displayed on the wooden screen behind the vehicle. We are delighted that Mr Koichi is representing KYBURZ so well in Japan and wish him all the best.

Good to know:
At the end of last year, an article about Eventas was published in our in-house newspaper. There you can also find the great promotional film entitled Night View YOKOHAMA. Here you can read it again: House magazine: Issue of 07.12.2020

A day in the life of Zoltan Vinay

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Zoltan Vinay: I have been with KYBURZ since August 2019.

Erza: What are your activities?

Zoltan: I work in the fleet management team as an interaction designer.
My main activity is creating the design of our Fleet Management programme. Partly I also help out with marketing with image and video editing.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Zoltan: I start my day with a good espresso. Then I check my to-do list in our project management tool. Every morning we have a team meeting where we discuss who is working on what. Caffeine sets in... then I start the actual work, which is mainly designing our user interface.

Erza: What do you like? What rather less?

Zoltan: I like the atmosphere in our team and also in the whole company. I like that most of my tasks are varied, especially regarding the design of the upcoming mobile apps.

Sometimes the tasks to be done come very sporty. A deadline can be a good motivator, but also annoying if I'm already working on a task that also has a deadline.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Zoltan: I grew up on Lake Balaton in Hungary and I like water sports a lot, however I discovered motorcycling for myself some time ago. Weather permitting, I like to ride and also tinker with my motorbike on the side. If time permits, I also like to play the guitar.

Health tip

I regularly introduce you to tips that strengthen the immune system. My recommendation today takes a little effort, but is definitely worth it.

Alternating showers: Is healthy and can be fun

It works in the same way as traditional Kneipp treatments: cold-warm stimuli from the water constrict and dilate the blood vessels, which indirectly has a positive effect on the immune system, metabolism, circulation, heat regulation, the heart and our mood.

Blood circulation and the nervous system are stimulated and the body is hardened and strengthened! Give it a try!

And this is how it works:
The correct sequence of alternating showers is very important. Always start with warm water and end with cold!

Start with the pleasant to the hot shower, then comes the part where you have to overcome your inner stinker. Take the shower head in your hand and now set the water to cool to cold. The best setting is jet. Start on the outside of the right foot (the furthest away from the heart). Then shower the outside of the right foot up to the hip. From there, switch to the inside of the thigh and jet back to the foot. Repeat on the left side. For beginners, two rounds are recommended, i.e. warm/cold - warm/cold.

Important to know:
You should not perform alternating showers if you have a fever, cardiovascular diseases, chronic illnesses or if you are pregnant.

Did you know:
The spa doctor and priest Sebastian Kneipp invented water therapy to strengthen the immune system more than 100 years ago. When used regularly, the very cool water (16 to 17 degrees Celsius) has a healing effect.

Do you have any questions on this topic? Sabine Lickert will be happy to answer them:
