Service bus: mobile workshop
Since the beginning of the year, we have had a Mercedes service bus, which we have gradually upgraded to a mobile workshop. Even though it looks pompous, the Mercedes can be driven with a normal car licence (category B).
All work on the interior has now been completed and the car/mechanic can show what he can do. The mobile workshop offers the same equipment as the service workshop in Freienstein.
All repairs are carried out on the lifting platform, which is mobile and mounted in the interior. The large worktop is equipped with vice and offers plenty of space to work. There are the most common screws and small parts in the bus, service material as well as drills, flex and special tools. We have also copied almost the entire inventory from the service warehouse, so we have everything we need with us when we are on tour.
Another plus point is the energy storage inside, which consists of 4 2ndLife 100 Ah blocks and a DC/AC converter with 4000 watts of power. The energy storage gives us the advantage of having power wherever we make a repair, even if there is no power outlet on site. We run a small 700 watt compressor and a radiant heater so that our fingers don't fall off while screwing in winter.
Of course, the microwave can also be plugged in to heat up lunch if necessary.
The storage unit is charged overnight at the socket - later even via solar cells mounted on the roof.
Despite all the equipment and the interior design, it is possible to transport up to 3 vehicles. So we can still take customer vehicles along on the tour. Of course, a trailer can also be attached.
The feedback from the service mechanics is very positive.
If only we had had the bus earlier :-)
Facts about the mobile workshop
