KYBURZ tests batteries
All battery types that we use are put through their paces. EMPA Dübendorf helps us carry out the two most extreme tests. In the nail test, an internal short circuit is induced in a fully charged battery by driving a nail through the cells. The battery is allowed to outgas, but not to ignite. In the other extreme test, all protective electronics are bypassed and a fully charged battery is subjected to the maximum possible charging power until the cells outgas. The test is passed if no fire starts. Individual cells are tested as well as complete vehicles ready for operation, including the battery. If all tests are passed successfully, the type is considered approved for use by customers. The whole process takes between 8 and 12 hours.
Do you have any questions about the battery tests? Olivier Groux will be happy to provide information.
