Air particle sensors in Freienstein and Embrach
Perhaps you have already asked yourself what these strange drainpipe parts are that have been hanging in Freienstein and Embrach (Tannenstr. and Industriestr.) for a few weeks. The answer is simple: they are the housings for self-made fine dust sensors! The sensors measure the air pollution (particle sizes PM10 and PM2.5) as well as the temperature and humidity every 10 minutes and send the data to the citizen science project "luftdaten.info" or "sensor.community" of the Open Knowledge Foundation / OK Lab Stuttgart. There you will also find instructions if you want to participate in the project yourself. All you need are the hardware components (costs: approx. CHF 40), a (USB) power connection and WLAN access. And at www.maps.sensor.community you can see a visualisation of the air quality generated from the sensor data.
Thorsten will be happy to answer your questions about the sensors.
